Christian Meister

Hard business in eventful times:
Christian Meister, the founder with vision.

In the Kaiser’s era  back in 1905, the master millwright Christian Meister opened his assembly business in Beverungen. This was physically demanding work, which he initially undertook with the help of three employees. In order to be able to carry out the assemblies in the individual milling units, the relevant tools were laboriously transported by hand from mill to mill in special cases.

By dint of sound craftsmanship, strict adherence to deadlines and excellent social skills, the small firm rapidly acquired a good reputation, allowing Christian Meister to gain a foothold in Beverungen in a very short space of time. In 1912 he built a house and workshop there for his family, where he lived with his wife Dorothea and where his four children grew up: he was there to stay.

The First World War interrupted business, but when it finished, orders soared again, since many antiquated mills were in urgent need of renovation. During the first stumbling attempts at German democracy in Weimar, the small business grew into a respected millwrighting operation once more thanks to a great deal of diligence and hard work. Perhaps it was a good omen that Gustav Meister, the Meisters’ first child, was born in the year that the company was founded. Christian Meister passed on to him his specialist expertise and the timeless ideals concerning professional and entrepreneurial responsibility that still continue to influence Gustav Meister GmbH today.
